Birria stew. Birria tacos. Birria quesadillas. It's all birria de chivo (goat) all the time at this Boyle Heights family-owned gem that's been churning out the Zacatecan specialty since 2003. A meal here feels utterly familial—a novela on the TV, plates of meat-laden tortillas at every table, and the unmistakable aroma of slow-braised goat hanging in the air. Tortillas are handmade and the birria tastes like it's been perfected over generations, which it has. Although birria patriarch Silverio Moreno passed in 2022, his wife and kids continue his legacy, and the recipe hasn't budged: heartwarming consommé, insanely tender goat that falls off the bone in stringy, deeply seasoned shreds, and a hot chile de árbol salsa you can't get enough of. Ordering both a plate of birria and tacos is the move if you've got the appetite for it. What's more, Birrieria Nochistlan is open daily, unlike the traditional weekend schedule most other birria vendors follow. Cash only, so come prepared.
