This place is hysterical in the best way. It's not the first place to come if you want a killer steak, but if you want a fun time and some awesome ambiance it's a great choice. Don't let the lack of windows intimidate you, walk past the early bird special crowd to the bar and enjoy some island-y cocktails with some solid appetizers.

Damon's is an L.A. establishment that I've heard about for decades of my life. Recently, while looking for a happy hour spot in Glendale, I suggested Damon's as a place to try rather than the more modern and sleek restaurants all over town.

Just walking in transports you. The vintage tiki atmosphere would put a smile on anybody's face. They really committed to this theme, and it shows from the large fish tanks to the bamboo fixtures to the tiki art on every wall. Established in 1937, they definitely had time to perfect their craft. Everywhere you looked, there were smiling faces.

We tried a few of the bar appetizers including the buttery garlic bread, wrapped in foil. It has everything you would want in this recipe.

The cocktails really shine at Damon's. Many people walk in and know what they want before they even sit down at the bar or table.

One of the thrilling concoctions is the Dole Whip and Kai Coconut cocktail. It is more or less a boozy, fruity float. And I don't need to explain that further.

The Mighty Mai Tai with rum, pineapple juice and "Island spirits" packs a punch with tropical flavor. The Chi Chi is another cocktail that is a rite of passage at Damon's.

They have the sophisticated Lychee Martini as well as classics such as the Blue Hawaii, Singapore Slink, Lava Flow and Hot Buttered Rum.

Step back in time and enjoy a true happy hour at Damon's.
