Named after a seaside city in Israel, Eilat Bakery specializes in delicious fresh-baked Israeli pastries, a relic of the many kosher bakeries that used to dominate Fairfax. We recommend going savory with their flaky Bulgarian cheese-filled bourekas (approx. $.75 for one) or satisfying a sweet tooth with their doughy rolled-up chocolate rugelach (approx. $1) and appropriately named creamy dough (approx. $1). Getting ready for Shabbat, or just looking for perfect french toast bread? Check out their many types of fresh challah (including chocolate chip, 7 grain and pretzel). Try not to be unnerved by the customer service– it’s appropriately acerbic for an authentic Jewish bakery.
