A former sous chef at Chef Gary Menes's Le Comptoir, Wes Avila has branched out to apply his considerable talents and fine dining experience to the taco, a food group all its own in this town. Avila sets up his truck in a few spots throughout the city, so check the website for an up-to-date schedule. There's a short menu of tacos filled with ingredients otherwise found at top-notch restaurants: Weisser Farm potatoes paired with chorizo, braised lamb neck carefully nestled with root vegetables and topped with a fried egg, bay scallops with a tomatillo and tomato confit. On a plate, any of these would be stellar, but in a taco, it’s perfect.

Guerrilla is one of those LA food trucks that you can easily imagine becoming a true Angeleno institution. Even way back when Wes Avila was slinging tacos on a griddle outside of Handsome Coffee in the Arts District this was one of the best places to creative and delicious tacos. It's been great to see them expand, both their locations and menu. Be sure to get the sweet potato and feta tacos, they're unbelievably good.
I stopped by this place one weekend because I had to see what all the fuss was about. There are plenty of incredible tacos in Los Angeles, but these really stood out. I visited the truck outside of Blue Bottle on Beverly on a Saturday morning, and was treated to a delicious lamb taco with tender meat and plenty of juice, as well as a sweet potato taco that was absolutely refreshing and delicious. I also sampled my friend’s quesadilla, which was beyond words. That cheese! The menu rotates, so I will definitely return to see what they cook up next. Very impressed overall.
