The next time you're in the mood for KBBQ, venture outside of Koreatown and head straight to Culver City's Hanjip. The sleek BBQ spot is owned by Seoul Sausage Co. founder Chris Oh, and while you can load up on a smorgasbord of meat here—prime ribeye, pork shoulder, baby octopus—you can also indulge in creamy uni steamed egg or kimchi fried rice. Want to go all out? The tomahawk steak with froie gras butter is a decadent, over-the-top slab of meat that is worth every penny of the $120 price tag.

I had a great experience at Hanjip when I went in for an all-you-can-eat brunch. Loved the affordable options, and the quality of meat is great. The banchan is unique and high quality as well, and I think it's a great spot when you're looking for Korean BBQ with a modern, different twist than the super traditional (which is also amazing, of course!). The bao was delicious, and I highly recommend the bone marrow corn and the steamed uni egg. Enjoy!


I came here during Restaurant Week for lunch (their special was so good - $15 for all you can eat for lunch, $29 at dinner). Their banchans are actually pretty fancy (traditional kim chee all the way up to this marinated cauliflower and flavorful squid) They give a lot of meat, so between two of us, we were done after one round. We had the beef brisket, bulgogi (have to), and pork belly – all of which were marinated perfectly.

The only thing I would say is points off for the service. They are friendly but so slow and very understaffed. The hostess and bussers had to take orders after a while. It took us 25 minutes to even get a bowl of rice and hot sauce. First world problems of course (so actually not that huge of a crisis) but lunch did take 3 hours! Just be prepared to be there for a while! Feed your street meter accordingly.
