It may still be called Joan's on Third, but the second outpost of this LA institution has made its way to Ventura Place in Studio City. Housed in a former post office, the space is a remarkable replica of the original on 3rd Street, with various stations divided up by pastries, sandwiches, cold cuts and more. There are still shelves lined with SQIRL jam and homemade pressed juices, and a long communal table where you can enjoy breakfast, lunch, dinner or just a cup of coffee and a pastry (the strawberry buttermilk scones are enough to convert any scone-hater). The one difference between locations? All that free neighborhood parking. Gotta love the Valley.

Joan's on Third is a great brunch/lunch spot, though expect a wait. I usually get an omelet or salad and never leave disappointed. Plus there is great people watching here.
Joan's on Third is hit or miss for me. Their lobster roll is not the best, and some of their other prepared foods have left a bad taste in my mouth. But the pastry case just calls my name whenever I step foot into this spot, and I've never been disappointed by a cookie, brownie or piece of cake from here. Maybe it's just because I'm not disappointed by cookies, brownies and cakes in life?
