Thai desserts are worth the diversion. At weekends outside LAX-C, the 'Thai Costco' near Chinatown, vendors set up outdoor kitchens and prepare sweet treats such as kanom krok, a round and creamy coconut rice fritter cooked over charcoal.

LAX-C, often described as the Thai Costco, is a fun litlle jaunt for Asian groceries. Most of their groceries are geared toward restaurant supplies, with quantities too large for most home shoppers. However, prices are good and there are definitely some good buys. The store is a bit dusty and messy though. I also bought some great kitchenware from there, Thai style.

The weekend market does not have many choices but it's always a treat to have warm, still steaming, Thai desserts fresh off the stovetop.
