Plan Check

Plan check refers to the process of getting building plans approved, a nod, as Plan Check Kitchen + Bar explains, to the Building and Safety Department next door to the first location. That Plan Check takes a city building rather than its location as its reference point is telling. Indeed, rather than curry and ramen, you have salty beer nuts, fried chicken served with sweet yam preserves, and burgers. Great, perfectly-sized burgers like the signature Plan Check Burger acknowledges its original Little Osaka neighborhood with a tender, juicy Akaushi red Wagyu beef patty nestled between a "crunch bun"—the crunch comes courtesy of panko—and the Blueprint Burger slathered with a roasted garlic steak sauce beautifully plays off the smokiness of blue cheese. If you're ranking the city's burgers the way you're ranking your fantasy football team, Plan Check is your Arian Foster: a definite first-round pick.

Always consistent & delicious. Plan Check is a great pick if you're looking for a bar + restaurant with plentiful well-crafted & unique food, as well as drink options for all tastes. The ketchup leather they serve on some of their burgers may sound odd, but it's definitely tasty and worth trying. Additionally, their Jidori chicken sandwich is one of my favorite dishes on the menu. At this point, there are a few Plan Checks in the LA area (Little Osaka, Fairfax, Downtown Santa Monica, etc) but it doesn't feel like they've stretched themselves too thin or that quality has suffered. The dishes are definitely rich & heavy as you would expect, and it can get pricey depending on your order, but the restaurant's food is absolutely delicious and deserves 5 stars
