Time Out says
The Mediterranean comes to California at Sonoma Wine Garden, where the wine country lands at Santa Monica Place. The outdoor patio overlooking the Pacific makes the perfect setting for after-work drinks (happy hour Mon-Fri 3:30-6:30pm) and a date night outing. Start with charcuterie and raw bar platters paired with wines by the glass—new and old world selections grace the extensive wine list—then dig into pizzas from the wood-burning pizza oven. Our vote for the most fun is in the sun: Come for weekend brunch when bottomless champagne is poured alongside rib-sticking Croque Madame and the house burger layered with caramelized onions, pickles, arugula and spicy aioli.

Now THIS is wine done right :)
I heard about this place from many people and it's been on my list for the longest times. Located in the ever popular 3rd Street Promenade - Santa Monica Place, it's right on the top level where it takes advantage of the beautiful weather and views of SM.
They have a huge space for a wine bar as there's a full restaurant and multiple outdoor seating areas from the bar to the patio space - we of course took the patio space.
The wine selection is great! I saw everything from local Californian wines to international ones. There merlot selection isn't the strongest but the one I had was very good.
I also had a chance to try the steamed mussel/clam dish - very yum.
There's a rumor here that they have a great brunch I have to try, so that's next!
I came to Sonoma Wine Garden with a couple of friends from work for happy hour and had a great time! Located at the top of Santa Monica Place it's very easy to get to and there's plenty of parking. However, if driving to Santa Monica is not your jam you can always jump on the Metro!
Sonoma Wine Garden has changed a bit throughout the years - it used to be a relaxing place to grab a glass of wine and some nice appetizers, but the vibe has definitely become a little more clubby. At dinner recently, I had a really nice bowl of spring pasta, and the mussels are a fantastic dish, but my friend didn't have great luck with her brunch the following weekend (cold food). The music was also super loud throughout my dinner. I could usually listen to old school hip hop at any time, but maybe not at 6pm on a Monday night in a nice restaurant.
