Huge portions, fresh, crusty loaves, and slow-cooked beef brisket help separate this artisanal deli from the rest of the pack. Choose from ten signature sandwiches (we're partial to the prosciutto-filled #4) or customize your own; but don't show up without sampling one of over forty local and international sodas available in the cooler.

Good food despite iffy service.  Their sandwiches are delicious, and there are actually more that aren't on the menu (mainly veggie options)--they're only listed in store, for some reason.  The meatball sandwich is THE BEST.

Relating to the service--if you're looking to pick up during a busy time, call well before then, even though, once you get someone to take your order, it only takes them 10 minutes to make the sandwiches.  The reason is, for some reason, they refuse to fix their phone line--supposedly credit card transactions need to use it for payment, and they can't answer the phone during that time?  So if you try to place an order at, say, 12:45, it will ring, then disconnect.  Try again, maybe it rings and rings.  Try again, maybe it's now off the hook.  Because essentially an employee keeps disconnecting incoming calls.  It's bizarre and problematic, especially because most likely they're losing business because of this.

That said, it could be employee incompetence.  Often, these days, there's a young man who looks like he's in high school manning the phone and register, and these are the days with the numerous hang ups.  Additionally, and more problematically, this person has egregious BO.  You go in for a delicious sandwich, and you're assaulted by a lack of deodorant--so bad it makes you want to abandon your takeout order and never come back.  Hoping they rotate their employees out so the service can go back to matching the food in quality.

Let me tell you about Tamarind Deli. In short, it is the best. Adorable shop and fresh ingredients. You don't need a huge menu when you kill it on the basics. #4 and #5 are my standard order, but the roast beef and brisket are great as well. Pro tip, call ahead.

Get #1 (if it's not sold out) you won't be disappointed! Best sandwiches in Los Angeles!
