Tucked into Grand Central Market is this little full-service, cut-to-order cheese counter and eatery owned by sisters Lydia and Marnie Clarke (they also own the Cheese Cave in Claremont, and a love of dairy runs in the fmaily—their father founded AltaDena Daairy). In addition to a delicious selection of over 100 cheeses, DTLA Cheese offers made-to-order plates and menu of sandwiches and other cheesy offerings from chef Reed Herrick. Want more? Try a class during Downtown LA's Artwalk: the second Thursday evening of each month, learn about a different type or style of cheesemaking, try samples and enjoy a cheese-friendly appetizer and glass of wine, all for $20 (sign up online or call the shop to reserve a spot).

Although Grand Central Market can feel daunting and cramped during lunch or on the weekends, DTLA Cheese is worth braving the crowds for. In the kitchen, they make delicious things like farro salad and avocado toast. But the cheese counter is where they really shine. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable - they'll happily let you taste a few different cheeses and will pick out some great options based on your preferences. If you're heading to a party and hoping to bring some cheese and crackers, the folks at DTLA cheese can help you pick a few cuts of great and interesting cheese without breaking the bank. 


This place has a 6 buck "ham and cheese" pre-made sandwich that's one of the best sandwiches in LA period.  While the entrees are hit and miss as far as noteworthy-ness, you can't go wrong with the basics--and since this place's basics are cheese, DTLA Cheese + Kitchen is amazing.  If you're in a hurry or simply don't feel like waiting a long time, stop off for a quick fix for a meal or preparation for a picnic.
