“The fact that this shirt has stripes is as fashionable as it gets for me. Not that I have anything against fashion, I just don’t concern myself with it.” —Nicholas Nakazono, 23, musician

“There’s the outward appearance of beauty and inner beauty. Fashion and make-up helps, and it’s a fun thing to do, but the inner beauty and person in an individual will make them stand out even more.” —Brittany Semamara, 24, hostess/server and salsa dancer

“Everyone here is so laid-back and casual but it’s not interesting to me. I’m interested in a new use of fabric with actual purpose: performance enhancing clothing.” —Justin Ryan Polisky, 31, artist

“I think my style is urban street wear with a twist. I’ve been dressing like this since I was thirteen. I really like decorative socks, and think people would say my style is kind of LA. But I’ve been dressing like this before I even moved to LA a few years ago, and since I knew I wanted to be out here.” —Adam Wright, 24, manager at Fixed Vapors

“My style is casual, funky, laid-back and beachy. LA style is jeans, tee-shirt and converse, which is as dressy as I get, with maybe a blazer.” —Chris Pegula, 42, owner of Diaper Dude

Santa Monica is a neighborhood known around the world. It may not be as tourist-packed as Hollywood, but the 'hood has some of the best beaches and sunshine, so it does get its fair share of out-of-towners cruising the Third Street Promenade and Ocean Ave. That's why we headed to Third Street Promenade, Main Street and Montana Avenue—to find the fashionable locals.
