Westsiders don't have to trek to Koreatown for their jade stone sauna and body scrub beauty regimens. Nestled in a nondescript building off 3rd Street Promenade, the Santa Monica answer to a Korean day spa offers all the same services (minus the brute black lingered women) along with other full service treatments such as facials and body wraps. Those looking for tension relief should book a session with Dr. Hata who combines East with West—he is trained in sports rehabilitation—and whose miracle hands and unorthodox approach can treat anything from tight muscles and soreness to chronic pain and autoimmune diseases. Prep for the intense deep tissue bodywork in the dry and wet sauna rooms. Post treatment you’ll be so relaxed you wonder how you’ve never discovered this underground oasis before.

I've never been a spa guy but after reading an article about LA Spa Week recently, decided to give it a go based on its affordability. The spa week deal was for one of three packages at just $50. I chose the massage, which I very highly recommend and I'll tell you why. After living in Silver Lake, Culver City, Los Feliz, Hollywood, West Hollywood, and Burbank, I've had a handful of so-so massage experiences. I've also swung by the famous Wii Spa in Koreatown for a one-hour. I can safely say this was better than my Wii Spa massage, as the masseuse specifically asked me which areas/body parts she should work on to ensure good health. I'd never been asked that before.

I also participated in some new experiences here: the clay room, salt room, and ice room (all of which are co-ed). Each room was said to have specific health benefits, so I of course partook.

Tikkun's locker rooms were super impressive, state-of-the-art, and new. Since I arrived early in the day, the mens locker room was completely empty all morning. In the locker room, you'll find a dry sauna, steam room, fresh towels, bathrobes, spa water, and showers with soap, conditioner, and shampoo.

I would highly recommend Tikkun to anyone looking for an A+ massage and spa experience.
