The Alex Theatre is a much lauded historic venue that is not only still in use, but also retains a lot of its original features.  Celebrated for being maintained and saved by its Glendale community, it's now operated by a local group that strives to bring community programming to the stage.  While the auditorium itself isn't as glorious as say, the United Artists or the Los Angeles, the theatre has numerous interesting details, a gorgeous forecourt, and a great display regarding its history.

The marquee outside of this old Glendale theater is a pretty fantastic art deco column. But the coolest feature is once you walk past the ticket booth and find yourself not inside a theater, but an outdoor courtyard facing a neoclassical temple. Inside, the auditorium isn't quite as stunning—nor is the programming always—but it's a surprisingly intimate space with some cool architectural details.
