See future box-office hits as well as niche, indie gems at the annual AFI Fest—the unofficial start of awards season—held each fall in Hollywood. For five days, a mix of films will be shown at the TCL Chinese Theatre and the Chinese 6 Theatres. The complete schedule is listed online, but highlights include red-carpet premieres and special screenings followed by Q&As with filmmakers and stars like Quentin Tarantino, Phil Lord and Chris Miller, Ava DuVernay, Pedro Pascal, Abbi Jacobson, Sophie Okonedo and more. You’ll also find Oscar-contending world cinema, documentaries, shorts and a “Luminaries” section with the latest works by world-renowned filmmakers like Werner Herzog, Mike Leigh, Ryusuke Hamaguchi and Céline Sciamma. Most screenings are only $19—less than the cost of an AMC ticket. The fest kicks off Wednesday, October 21, with the U.S. premiere of LAIKA’s stop-motion Wildwood.
