Ashes to Films—founded in 2025 after the wildfires—presents its inaugural film festival, which is showcasing the work of 10 survivors who lost everything in the Palisades and Eaton Fires. The nonprofit provided grants to both first-time and veteran filmmakers so they could tell their stories on the big screen. On the lineup this weekend are 10 films, some of which deal directly with the fires as their subject and all of which offer stories of hope and resilience. Highlights include “Altadena: The Heart. The Art. The Soul,” which is about the Black arts and cultural legacy of the community; “Eaton Alive,” about a woman living in an RV on the lot where her home burned down; and “The Home,” which features Gillian Jacobs, who’ll be on hand for a Q&A. The fest will also screen shorts by of 16 young, up-and-coming filmmakers.
