Celebrate a century of the Central Library, the Beaux Arts architectural treasure in the heart of Downtown. The L.A. landmark is turning 100 and throwing a birthday bash with free programming, performances, family-friendly crafts, exhibits, hands-on activities and special guests. Head to the Central Rotunda to the unveiling of the world’s largest pop-up book, a feat of paper engineering by Boyle Heights native artist Daniel González. Other highlights include performances by Bob Baker Marionette Theater, the Linda Lindas, the Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz and L.A. Taiko Ichiza; workshops where you can make your own zines, tunnel book or carousel book; and listen to a talk with The Library Book author Susan Orlean, followed by birthday cake.
