Even before it was busy swallowing up entire city blocks on network TV shows, the La Brea Tar Pits have long seeped their way into pop culture, bringing both exposure and misunderstandings about the natural asphalt pits. The Natural History Museum hosts this online lecture about the Pits’ place in pop culture, with artists Mark Dion and Carl Cheng, Stanford University lecturer Dr. Alison Laurence and the museum’s archivist, Yolanda Bustos.
