Time Out says

If you're on the hunt for a cheap, lively way to celebrate Uncle Sam, shake it over to Grand Park, and watch Downtown L.A. light up for free! This Fourth of July, Grand Park hosts a unique block party, featuring scrumptious food truck fare, live music and more. The music begins while the sun is still high in the sky, so bring yourself an all-day picnic—no booze allowed, only empty water bottles—and relax. Your four-legged friends are totally invited, and, best of all, the event is Metro accessible

We were only there from 7pm until after the fireworks, but it was quite a let down. There wasn't much to do but stand in line for our food, which took a good chunk of our time. It wouldn't have been that bad, but there were thousands of people sitting around waiting for the fireworks that the "live musicians" (read DJs) kept hyping, which led us to believe we were in something spectacular. After finding a spot and spreading our blanket we were treated to a ten minute roman candle display. Seriously, the fireworks show lasted ten minutes. I've seen better fireworks in little po-dunk midwest towns with populations less than 800. Needless to say, we'll be going to Long Beach next year.
