This overlook in the Santa Monica Mountains has fantastic views of the downtown skyline all the way to the ocean (on a clear day, you can see Catalina!) and it's right on top of the Hollywood Bowl. It's a prime place to be on a clear night or when your favorite band is playing a sold out show at the Bowl. Get there as early as possible—the parking lot is tiny and while there is street parking, the park is in a particularly curvy spot on Mulholland Drive and cars whiz by even at night.

This option should not be recommended. My boyfriend and I drove up there early and we got there at 645. There was plenty of people there thinking they were going to see fireworks as well. We set up our blanket to watch. The sun started setting right before 8p and police walked through stating that the park closes at sunset and everyone was forced to leave. Outside of the park, there was no view of the fireworks. Please don't suggest something on your site if you don't have first hand experience. On July 4th tonight, there are signs stating the park closes earlier at 6pm. Don't waste your time tonight. Try to see beach fireworks.
