This kitschy Glendale rink (it's been open since 1950) holds a variety of events and classes: Saturday mornings, for example, are for children only, while Monday nights are only open to over-25s. Moonlight has rollerskates for hire, but not blades or inline skates. Regular roller skater? Buy a pair for you or your child at the rink's "pro shop."

Address: 5110 San Fernando Rd

This place is soooooo cool!!!!! I love roller discos and I think this one is my favorite. It's very affordable (about $15 which includes a skate rental). For up to 3 hours of roller skating, thats a pretty good deal. I just loved the whole atmosphere. The darkness with the lit up, colorful disco ball and funky music. It was like a blast from the past and I got a taste of it. And it was amazing. You can put your stuff in a locker, but we got the vibe that no one wanted our sweaters anyway so just left it near where we were. There's themed days (I think ours was throwback thursday) as well as themed moves. There was one where it was just ladies, just guys, only backwards skating, etc. which was cool. Wish they had better music options, but everything else was great!

Sure, Moonlight Rollerway may not be the most progressive, aesthetically pleasing, or up-to-date venue, but after some quick, LA roller rink research, it may be the only legitimate option in town. Let's be frank: hand anyone a pair of four-wheeled shoes, classic 70s dance music, and disco lights and then try to argue a good time is not to be had. I hadn't roller skated in years and just like riding a bike, I chose to demonstrate my (self-described) superior skills by dominating the rollerway and trolling young children. My female friend didn't fare so well so if that's the case for you, create your own fun by whipping around in circles, alienating kids and angry parents alike. You have to be "that" person for the sake of millennials everywhere.

As an added bonus, Moonlight hosts theme nights every once in awhile, including "Harry Potter" night. The LA Chapter of Dumbledore's Army hosts this epic event, complete with Butter Beer, prizes, games, and costumes. Sign me up!

Roller skating is definitely making a comeback. Moonlight Rollerway has been waiting about 50 years for it, but '70s glam is hip again (along with in-line rollerblading, cross dressing and other fun things you'll see on the floor). This is a great spot for a party or a date, if you don't mind looking like a goof in public. If you can skate up to the DJ deck, you can request songs or ask for a shout-out. Last time I was there, they had boy and girl only songs, but none for couples and none for the gender-queer. They'll get there. (Also, someone broke their collarbone. BE CAREFUL.)
