As part of his three-year stint as artist-collaborator with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Yuval Sharon has joined creative forces with composer Annie Gosfield to resurrect and reimagine Orson Welles’s infamous 1938 “War of the Worlds” broadcast, during which millions of listeners became convinced that aliens were invading planet Earth. While LA Phil musicians conjure radio sounds inside the Walt Disney Concert Hall, three defunct WWII-era sirens in Downtown L.A. will be repurposed into two-way speakers, with opera singers stationed at each to provide news dispatches.
