Time Out says

There's nothing that says summer quite like biting into a juicy watermelon on a hot day, and there's no better place to do just that than at the 54th Annual Watermelon Festival in the San Fernando Valley on August 13 and 14. Guests can enjoy an unlimited amount of ice-cold watermelon and the permission to play with their food during any of festival activites including a seed spitting contest, carving contest and watermelon relay. There will also be plenty of attractions to enjoy, like carnival rides, zip line, rock wall, laser tag and more. The festival pays tribute to the time when the Valley was abundant with watermelons, so gather everyone together and tip your hat to summer's best fruit.
