Alter’s Brad Kilgore is a finalist for the 2018 James Beard Awards

Congratulations are in order for chef Brad Kilgore: the talented toque behind Alter in Wynwood is a finalist for a James Beard Award in the category of Best Chef in the South. 

Of the 10 James Beard Award semifinalists nominated in Florida, which included Stiltsville Fish Bar’s Janine Booth, Zak the Baker’s Zak Stern and Ghee Indian Kitchen’s Niven Patel, Kilgore is the only nominee to make it to the coveted short list for the culinary industry’s top prize. 

This is Kilgore’s third time nabbing a spot on the list of James Beard Award nominees—in 2016 and 2017 he was a semifinalist in the Rising Star Chef category, which is given to luminary chefs under 30. Perhaps aging out will be a good thing for Kilgore.
