Time Out says

Reviewing hotels is a key part of my job, and as much as I love it, it’s always helpful when someone else does a bit of the work for me. At NH Collection Milano City Life, help came from a fellow guest – a British tourist who, between Aperol Spritzes by the rooftop pool, turned to her friend and said ‘it would be worth coming to Milan for a day just for this – it’s like a proper summer holiday.’

Another comment my helpful accomplice made was that it’s worth booking the hotel slightly outside of the centre of town to score such a sparkling swimming spot, and I have to agree. In a city as warm as Milan, access to a large, sun-soaked pool area is a godsend – but it’s not the only thing that makes this 13-storey stay worth a place on your Milan hit list.

What is NH Collection Milano City Life like?

The vibe and energy of the hotel strikes you immediately as you pass through the cavernous pillared entrance – a former church that now houses the hotel’s statement furniture, opening up into the glittering foyer. With its heritage facade attaching to a hyper-modern central building, the hotel blends Milan’s traditional charm with its new, fashionable edge. Heritage pictures of the city line the walls, but the experience you’re getting isn’t remotely old-fashioned: the aesthetic is tastefully pared-back, the service is polished but playful, and there’s all the tech (and avocado toast) to remind you that you’re firmly in the 21st century.

What are the rooms like at NH Collection Milano CityLife?

Rooms strike that very Italian balance between sleek minimalism and quiet luxury. Crisp neutral palettes, oversized beds, huge TVs and espresso machines – with some suites (on the third floor) hidden dramatically beneath the original church vaults for a genuinely one-of-a-kind stay.

The vibe is less ‘historic hotel groaning with antiques’ and more polished Milanese modernism. If you can, spring for one of the terrace rooms: having your own outdoor space in Milan feels wildly indulgent.

Is there a restaurant at NH Collection Milano CityLife?

The hotel’s Tailors Restaurant and Cocktail Bar serves breakfast through dinner, with a menu that leans upscale Italian and aperitivo-friendly. Our pick? The beef carpaccio to start – washed down with a perfectly-mixed Martini. That being said, for a fully-fledged Milanese dining experience, we’d suggest heading out to one of the best restaurants or trattorias in the city.

There’s also a rooftop bar, The District, where cocktails and Milanese risotto come with skyline views over the futuristic CityLife towers.

What is the service like at NH Collection Milano CityLife?

Service here lands firmly in the polished-but-not-stuffy category. Staff are regularly singled out for being warm, helpful and genuinely engaged, whether that’s organising restaurant bookings or helping guests navigate Milan like locals. It feels more relaxed than some of Milan’s ultra-formal luxury hotels – which, honestly, is part of the appeal.

Is there a gym at NH Collection Milano CityLife?

There is, and it’s a proper one – not just a lonely treadmill shoved into a basement room. The hotel gym is modern, well-equipped and free for guests, with towels and water provided. Useful if you’re trying to balance out the carbs-to-steps ratio after several consecutive aperitivos.

Is there a pool at NH Collection Milano CityLife?

Yes – and as noted by my fellow guest, that’s a surprisingly rare find in Milan. The rooftop pool is one of the hotel’s biggest selling points, with panoramic views across the CityLife skyline. It’s seasonal (open roughly May to October), with sunbeds, drinks service and a poolside bar adding to the whole urban-resort fantasy.

What’s the area like around NH Collection Milano CityLife?

The hotel sits in Milan’s CityLife district, surrounded by glossy skyscrapers, high-end apartments and architecture by big names like Zaha Hadid and Daniel Libeskind.

Compared to the delightfully chaotic energy around the Duomo, it feels calmer, cleaner and distinctly more residential – but still well connected to central Milan via the metro. You’re also close to massive green spaces, sleek shopping centres and some genuinely excellent aperitivo spots. The walk into the centre of the city takes around 50 minutes, or you can jump on the metro or a tram and be there in less than half an hour.
