In a fast-paced, high-colour award show (and after party) in Las Vegas, the prestigious 50 Best group announced the winners of the inaugural North America's 50 Best Restaurants list.

And Canada (especially Montreal) came up trumps.

While no Canadian restaurants saw representation on The World’s 50 Best Restaurants this year, 10 Canadian restaurants have made the first-ever North America's 50 Best Restaurants list discerned by the anonymous army of 300 local experts

Which Montreal restaurants made the North America's 50 Best Restaurants list?

The restaurant Le Violon—located in Plateau-Mont-Royal, recently ranked coolest neighbourhood in the world (and the location of Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau's recent dinner date)—came in at no. 29, but that's just the beginning.

Montreal restaurant Beba set the tone as the night started by taking no. 50, while Alma took slot 43, Montréal Plaza took no. 22, and Mon Lapin came in hot at no. 2.

Among the special awards for 2025, Montreal’s own star sommelier Vanya Filipovic took the crown as North America’s Best Sommelier, while her home away from home Mon Lapin also hopped to the Best Restaurant in East Canada rank.

The most prestigious Montreal win, though, has got to be the LaVazza Icon Award given to Chef Normand Laprise of Toqué!, whose legacy was felt all over the room in a standing ovation.

“A big merci to the kitchen brigade, the one from yesterday and the one from tomorrow,” said Chef Laprise, many of whose mentees graced the room.

But that’s not all for Canada

Toronto restaurants Mhel (no. 44) and Quetzal (no. 11) each took a bow, while Lincoln Ontario’s Pearl Morissette scored both no. 3 standing and the special award of Best Restaurant in Central Canada.

The Best Restaurant in Western Canada honours went to Baan Lao, in Richmond, B.C., while Vancouver’s Published on Main took spot no. 28 on the list of 50.

Quebec City’s Tanière3’s had already been leaked as a winner of the first-ever North America's 50 Best Restaurants Art of Hospitality Award. To that they can now add a ranking at no. 5 on the 50 Best list.

“I feel like there’s this warmth in the population of Quebec, and we try to show that in our service, “ saysTanière3 Chef François-Emmanuel Nicol.

What is North America's best restaurant?

Atomix, in New York, continued its global ascension by taking first place in the list of North America’s 50 Best Restaurants.

Chef Junghyun Park and wife Ellia can add that to their long list of accolades, including spot 12 on the World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2025.

What are Canada's best bars?

If reservations at Canada’s ranked restos prove difficult in the next little while, you can drown your sorrows in style at some award-winning bars:

Montreal bars Cloakroom and Atwater Cocktail Club were recently listed in the World’s 50 Best Bars list, alongside Toronto’s Bar Pompette, Civil Liberties, Bar Mordecai and Mother.

Last but not least, Vancouver's Botanist Bar and The Keefer Bar also cleaned up.
