Nothing captures that holiday feeling quite like heading to a gorgeous rooftop for a spritz the second you’ve dumped your bags at the hotel. Whether it’s an Aperol atop a rustic terrace in Italy, a port tonic overlooking Porto or a glass of sangria with views of stunning Spanish terracotta tiles, a rooftop bar is the picture of holiday sophistication.
Thankfully, Enjoy Travel knows just how vital these coveted spots are, so they’ve made a list of the best rooftop bars in Europe. Their recommendations are based on aggregated scores from social media results, plus the insight of their editorial team.
Frank’s Café in London is considered the best. This South London venue sits atop a car park and serves up cocktails, small bites and killer views of the capital’s skyline.
At number two is Azotea del Circulo, an icon of Madrid’s bar scene which can be enjoyed season after season thanks to its retractable roof. It’s within walking distance of El Retiro Park and Plaza Mayor, the perfect spot for a glass of wine in between sightseeing.
Ranking at third place is The Roof in Reykjavik, a hotel bar offering panoramic vista views and an incredible cocktail list. The Veni, Vidi, Kiwi cocktail with Icelandic basil sounds particularly refreshing.
Schweizerhof Flims in Switzerland is fourth, and Oroya in Madrid is fifth. Clearly, Spain knows what it’s doing when it comes to a good rooftop spot, as it occupies three of the top 10 spots – Patchwork in Ibiza is number eight.
