Big news in the bar world this week, as the World’s 50 Best Bars have been crowned for another year. These awards are some of the most prestigious in the cocktail-shaking, wine-swishing universe. And there’s something for everyone among this year’s winners, whether you prefer the cosy buzz of a speakeasy in Mexico City or the sleek glamour of sipping a cocktail in Hong Kong’s Four Seasons.

The 2023 list features 11 new entries – but where has claimed the ultimate top spot?

The best bar in the world this year is Sips in Barcelona, an unassuming bar with an innovative cocktail menu. It climbed two places after coming in third in 2022, dethroning another Barcelona contender Paradiso, which occupies spot number four.

New York’s Double Chicken Please, an atmospheric bar that began as a Volkswagen minibus tour, steals number two. Found in the Lower East Side, this place champions ‘whimsical cocktails … and great company’.

Third place goes to Handshake Speakeasy in Mexico City, one of the four bars across this sprawling metropolis which made the top 50. Fourth of course was Paradiso, and fifth was the Connaught Bar in London, which you can read more about here.

Italy, the USA and the UK have five entries each. Read more about the British bars that made the list here
