When it comes to choosing where to jet off (or get the train) to next, the friendliness of the locals sure is important. After all, even a destination with the greatest attractions can leave a sour taste if it ends up making you feel unsafe or unwelcome. Fortunately, plenty of places’ kind reps precede them.

But which cities are the friendliest? While friendliness might seem tough to measure, luggage storage company Bounce has had a go. Bounce’s study ranked cities in Europe by taking into account a whole bunch of factors, from levels of crime and happiness to LGBTQ+ attitudes.

Top of Bounce’s study was... Zurich in Switzerland! Receiving a perfect AAA rating for LGBTQ+ acceptance whilst also scoring high on happiness and low on crime, the Swiss city is apparently Europe’s friendliest destination.

Next on the list was Copenhagen, also largely thanks to its levels of happiness and LGBTQ+ acceptance, whilst third came Munich, which apparently enjoys exceptionally low levels of crime.

Here are the full top ten friendliest cities in Europe right now, according to Bounce’s study.

  1. Zurich, Switzerland
  2. Copenhagen, Denmark
  3. Munich, Germany
  4. Amsterdam, Netherlands
  5. Vienna, Austria
  6. Stockholm, Sweden
  7. Berlin, Germany
  8. Prague, Czech Republic
  9. Edinburgh, UK
  10. Dublin, Ireland

So if kindly locals are a high priority for your next getaway, now you’ve got tonnes of inspo! You can read the full study here, then check out our list of essential European city breaks for 2023.
