This L.A. artist’s practice has included absurdist performances in which he gesticulates in a kind of private sign language that responds to “spiritless places and things” such as “a tree island in a Target parking lot or…a booth at Red Robin.” Paintings filled with loopy gestures, are also part of the menu, serving as extension of his performative acts. In this show, his latest gestural canvases (which recall Abstract Expressionism, minus the sturm und drang), are denser and more colorful, becoming standalone works infused with manic energy.
