Time Out says

Pendleton's silkscreens of black-and-white imagery and text on mirror-polished stainless-steel panels have often seemed like an unlikely combination of Chris Wool and Michelangelo Pistoletto. He refers to his efforts as "black Dada," ascribing presumably subversive motives to works that are, after all, highly refined, if somewhat brooding. This show includes similar pieces as well as a video in which the artist interviews David Hilliard, former chief of staff for the Black Panther Party. Hilliard was convicted for his part in a 1968 ambush of the Oakland police—an assault carried out in retribution for the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.'s murder that same year. Pendleton subtitles the piece My Teacher, which could certainly be construed as a bit inflammatory, if not precisely Dadaist.
