Afruz Amighi, "The Hidden State"

This Iranian-born artist has created a tentlike installation of woven fabrics, patterned with Islamic and Persian motifs meant to evoke the Middle East's "architecture of power," as she puts it: palaces and mosques. In contrast, the artist also depicts what she calls "the architecture of despair" from the same region, in the form of graphite drawings of refugee camps along the Syrian-Turkish border.
