"Ai Weiwei: New York Photographs 1983–1993"

In this before-they-were-famous show, Asia Society delves into the 1980s salad days Ai Weiwei spent on New York’s Lower East Side and in the East Village. On view are 227 photos taken by the future international art superstar and political cause célèbre, including portraits of the artist as a young, svelte man, and scenes of everyday life in the downtown scene back in the day.
