Alex Van Gelder, "Line of Inquiry"

In this series of platinum prints, the artist focuses on funerary photographs found on tombstones. Often using the same portrait oval format as the originals, Van Gelder's images chart the damages done over time—the pitting, cracking and bleaching—to these representations of the departed.
