Krut, a South Africa–born British painter, offers a smorgasbord of stylistic references to early-20th-century modern art in his latest works, with some twists: There's a creepy sexual subtext, plus a penchant for cobbling together cartoonish figurative forms out of vegetables and such, à la Arcimboldo. It sounds like a bit much visually, but it works, thanks to an ambiguous vibe provided by muted colors outlined in black.
