Arnold Odermatt

In his role as a policeman in Nidwalden, Switzerland, Arnold Odermatt spent more than 40 years photographing the scenes of accidents. Yet this series of black-and-white prints strays far from the cold and calculating forensic gaze—Odermatt’s keen awareness of perspective combined with the lush Alpine landscapes result in lyrical depictions of tragedy.
