The show title pretty much explains this historical survey focusing on modern artists during the rise of Hitler. The Nazis, of course, would later ban all forms of modernism in favor of a style of realism heavy on the propaganda, and this exhibit presents work reacting to the gathering storm by such seminal figures as Max Beckmann, Otto Dix, Max Ernst and Oskar Kokoschka, as well as lesser known names like Richard Oelze.
