Time Out says

The gallery takes it’s name from a deli that formerly occupied this storefront space in Greenpoint (the former tenant's awning is still there with its name visible in faded letters). Cleopatra’s opened in 2008 as a labor of love for a group of young gallery professionals (Bridget Donahue, Bridget Finn, Colleen Grennan and Erin Somerville) who held day jobs at more established venues such as Anton Kern and Gladstone Gallery. Their program focuses on young emerging artists working in multiple mediums.
