"Dubuffet and the Art Brut"

Works by Jean Dubuffet (1901–1985) are presented here, alongside pieces by the self-taught artists—many of them secluded in mental hospitals—that he began to champion under the rubric Art Brut in 1945. Dubuffet basically created the category of outsider art, and was certainly one of the first formally trained artists to argue that its merits as an expression should be taken seriously.
