Dylan Spaysky, “Tacky Glue”

Advertising

Time Out says

The work of this Detroit artist follows the same throwaway aesthetic favored by artists such as Tony Feher and B. Wurtz, but it also seems to share some of Mike Kelley’s fascination with pop-cultural abjection—minus the acerbic tone. Instead, Spaysky adds a tinkerer’s touch, creating his installations by transforming detritus into working lamps, clocks and fountains. He also includes objects and figures whittled from wood, bathroom sponges and foam blocks that depict such icons as Mickey Mouse, President Lincoln and Jesus along with more prosaic subjects.
