Ed Ruscha

Ruscha has pursued something of a love affair with language throughout his career, which accounts for the preponderance of texts in his paintings. In this show, the L.A. artist takes an indirect approach to the subject, with trompe l'oeil renderings of books that emphasize the abstract qualities of the essential thing making them up—pages. Marbelized end papers and gilded fore edges are some of the elements depicted in the work.
