Boone's Fifth Avenue and Chelsea branches are both given over to portraits by Fischl, who shot to superstardom in the 1980s with a style that put tightly coiled Expressionistic brushwork to the service of limning scenes that were at once real, yet dreamlike (if not downright nightmarish). Here, subjects like SNL producer Lorne Michaels are handled more or less straightforwardly, in formats ranging from individual, full-length likenesses to gatherings of families and friends.
