This exhibit features a selection from the weird and fascinating work of Eugene Von Bruenchenhein (1910–1983), a Milwaukee baker whose varied output of outsider art spanned painting, ceramics, sculpture and photography, not to mention forays into writing. His content and sources of inspiration were just as eclectic, from the cosmological and botanical to fears of nuclear annihilation. It all revolved around a rich fantasy life shared with Von Bruenchenhein's wife, who, as the subject of a series of cheesecake photos taken by the artist over time, became the regent of his febrile imagination.
