Frank Stella, "Recent Work"

Stella presents pieces from two recent series: one paying homage to musicologist Ralph Kirkpatrick, the other a meditation on the circus as a long-standing fascination for artists. As has been the case for this artist since the late 1950s, when he laid the groundwork for Minimalism, the emphasis in both groups of work is on color, spatial dynamics, and a collapse of the distinction between painting and sculptural object.
