Time Out says

Nares's canvases center around the idea of the brushstroke as a kind of calligraphic record of the painting process. Usually this entails compositions dominated by a large fluid gesture or a series of them. His latest works are ink drawings created with a mechanically revolving drum wrapped by a sheet of paper. Nares essentially uses it as a lathe, laying down parallel lines of varying widths and consistencies as the device rotates. The effect resembles record grooves or skid marks filtered through traditional Chinese art.
