In celebration of the Pop Art master's 80th birthday, the gallery builds a show around one of Rosenquist's more notable works: his monumental two-in-one effort, A Pale Angel’s Halo and Slipping Off the Continental Divide. Created two years after a near-fatal car accident in 1971, the piece alludes to that experience, representing one of the first instances of autobiography entering into Rosenquist's work. Comparable in scale and impact to the artist's F-111 from 1964, A Pale Angel’s Halo and Slipping Off the Continental Divide has been shown only twice in New York since its 1974 debut at the legendary Leo Castelli Gallery.
