John Giorno, “Space Forgets You”

A veteran poet, performance artist and, for a while, Andy Warhol’s lover (he starred in Warhol’s film Sleep), Giorno has over the years created text paintings and works on paper featuring pithy sayings (“Life Is a Killer”) splashed across his compositions in attention-grabbing, billboard-size letters. His newest pieces are sourced from his own poetry, with words layered over bright rainbow-color gradients to optimistically sardonic effect.
