Time Out says

Albers is well-known for his painting series "Homage to the Square," in which he explored color relationship through concentric sequences of the titular shape. Less well-known is the fact that he created studies for these and other paintings in his career, though he never exhibited them in his lifetime. Rarely seen since his death in 1976, some 60 examples of his oil sketches take center stage in the first-ever survey show of this important sideline to his work.
