Much as in her current installation at the Whitney Biennial—for which this show serves as a companion—Koether here presents enervated combinations of figurative elements, gestural marks and mostly acidy colors on canvases meant to reference the 17th-century painter Nicolas Poussin's compositional cycle The Four Seasons. Just how isn't entirely clear, though the artist has covered the gallery floor with clay-coloredgravel, adding that crunching-underfoot sound so evidently missing from other gallery shows.
