Kara Walker, "Dust Jackets for the Niggerati- and Supporting Dissertations, Drawings Submitted Ruefully by Dr. Kara E. Walker"

This half of a two-gallery show (in conjunction with Lehmann Maupin) features the noted African-American artist's latest interrogations of our country's racial psychosis in drawing form. Pulling back from the abstractions of her previous show, Walker presents works on paper in graphite that contemplate the transformations of black culture in the 20th century, as African-Americans migrated out of the Jim Crow South to the cities of the North.
